DAY 290

Shout-out to Medal of Honor winner who wasn’t

President Obama awarded Joe Medicine Crow with the Medal of Freedom in August, but gave him a "shout-out" for receiving the Medal of Honor.

President Obama awarded Joe Medicine Crow with the Medal of Freedom in August, but gave him a "shout-out" for receiving the Medal of Honor.

Not only did President Obama insensitively use the first half of his remarks on Ft. Hood to give a “shout-out,” he got his facts wrong about Joe Medicine Crow.

Here’s what the president said:

I hear that Dr. Joe Medicine Crow was around, and so I want to give a shout-out to that Congressional Medal of Honor winner. It’s good to see you.

Joe Medicine Crow is not a Medal of Honor recipient — he is a recipient of the Medal of Freedom, and the president should know this. He’s the one who gave it to Crow in August.

Of course, the president’s track record of getting the facts straight on Medal of Freedom recipients is a bit fuzzy.
