DAY 207

Gaffe in Montana: ‘We were losing about 700 jobs each month’

President Obama misspoke today during his town hall meeting in Montana, accidentally downplaying the size and scope of the recession.

From the White House transcript (notice its use of ‘[sic]‘):

Just six months ago, we were in the middle of the worst recession of our lifetimes. We were losing about 700 jobs each month.

Would that it was true! Only 700 jobs each month?!

Job loss peaked in March, with a loss of 736,000. Last month, July, the nation lost 247,000 jobs (remember, the president said that was a good thing!).

Maybe the telemprompter had another malfunction.
