DAY 178

Biden: We must spend money to avoid bankruptcy

While speaking about health care reform, Medicaid and Medicare, Vice President Joe Biden said the country must spend money to avoid going bankrupt.

While speaking about health care reform, Medicaid and Medicare, Vice President Joe Biden said the country must spend money to avoid going bankrupt.

Speaking to a group of AARP members today, Veep Joe Biden spoke about dead cows, health care, Medicare and the economy.

While speaking, he let out this whopper, from The American Spectator:

“The status quo is simply not acceptable — it’s totally unacceptable,” Biden said. “And it’s completely unsustainable. Even if you wanted to keep it the way you have it now, we can’t do it financially. We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation.”

He said he understood that it may seem counterintuitive to some people.

“When I say that, people look at me and they say, ‘You’re telling me we have to spend money when we’re going bankrupt?’” Biden exclaimed. “The answer is yeah, that’s what I’m telling you.”

It’s not just counterintuitive to some people, it’s counterintuitive to most, if not all, people.

It’s like saying we must smoke more cigarettes to avoid getting lung cancer.

Comparable to the famous quote from the Vietnam War: “We must destroy the village in order to save it.”
