President Obama appeared to be apologizing for America’s attitude toward Europe during a town hall meeting with students in France today. According to ABC News:
“We must be honest with ourselves,” the president said. “In recent years, we’ve allowed our alliance to drift.”
Obama said the United States was partly to blame because “there have been times where America’s shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive” toward Europe.
While he didn’t let Europe completely off the hook — “there have been times where Europeans chose to blame America for much of what’s bad” — what’s the deal with the president going overseas and knocking the U.S. of A.? Especially to our close allies.
Instead of Hillary, maybe he should have nominated Oprah as secretary of state. At least then the apologies and groveling would seem natural.
